Boca Raton was first incorporated as a town in 1925 and has since experienced steady and substantial growth. With a population of approximately 86,396, the city is the 25th most populous in the State of Florida and the 2nd largest city in Palm Beach County. Boca Raton was originally an agricultural community however, during the land boom of the 1920s; architect Addison Mizner initiated the tourism industry when he began work on the exclusive hotel that is today’s Boca Raton Resort & Club. In 1967, IBM relocated one of its computer facilities to Boca Raton, and in 1981, it was there the first IBM PC, or personal computer, was developed. Since then, the city has become a Mecca for innovative computer development and has seen a steady increase in its industrial base.
